Primary Job Function
The PACU/Pre-Surgical Admissions Registered Nurse develops, delivers and overseas the plan of care for patients, participates in patient and family teaching, and works cooperatively with all team members in maintaining the standards of professional nursing practice. Activities include assessment, teaching, recovering post anesthesia patients, assisting physicians during procedures and all nursing activities necessary to carry out plan of care.
Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing, current Registered Nurse Indiana license.
Must pass ACLS within 1 year of hire date and maintain current as according to ACLS policy. This requirement does not apply to prn staff. (Do not take call without another ACLS staff member present)
A minimum of one year experience in hospital or related health care setting.
Knowledge of health care policies, governmental regulations, reimbursement practices pertinent to department.
High emotional tolerance for various personalities.
Willingness to learn, or present ability to work with several different computer programs is required. These programs include but are not limited to, the clinical documentation system, the scheduling log and the recovery room log.
Ability to be discrete and protect the integrity of confidential information.
This position requires employee to regularly:
1. Be at risk for occupational exposure to blood and other potentially infectious materials,
2. Be able to work holidays, weekends, days, evenings, and night hours, based upon department needs. Must be able to work mandatory overtime or hours significantly beyond the normal work day/week.
Physical and Mental Activities, Tools and Equipment:
This position requires critical thinking skills and math skills. Carrying, pushing, pulling of heavy equipment. Must be able to lift 50 pounds, push/pull 200 pounds.
Ability to work with different types of technical equipment, (i.e.monitors) necessary in providing patient care.
Ability to trouble shoot and problem solve equipment and technical equipment.
Use of personal computer and other standard office equipment ( e.g. telephone, fax, copier, calculator).
