Primary Job Function
The patient advocate is responsible for identifying and verifying the method of payment and debt resolution for services rendered to all patients. They are responsible for ensuring that all scheduled and elective admissions are verified in a timely manner. They are responsible for verification of benefits and eligibility on procedures and review requirements for insurance authorization.
High School diploma or its equivalent.
High degree of accuracy with close attention to detail.
Proficient computer skills. Ability to use calculator, copier and fax machine.
Organizational skills for producing work output and maintenance of files and work area.
Ability to effectively plan tasks to be done to ensure they are completed by or before the due date; identify and resolve problems and discrepancies on a timely basis; and to follow up on pending items to ensure timely and proper resolution.
Ability to communicate effectively and tactfully with associates, department managers, Hospital Administration and business associates outside the Hospital presenting a professional image as a representative of Marion General Hospital and the Registration Department.
A strong customer service orientation is necessary.
Typical office environment. Requires moderate amounts of walking and standing. Occasionally lifts supplies up to 25 pounds.
Ability to be discreet and protect the integrity of confidential information.
Physical and Mental Activities, Tools and Equipment:
Prolonged sitting and use of the telephone. Frequently walking to and from buildings in the immediate campus area.
Use of personal computer and other standard office equipment.
